Privacy Policy for Sip

Effective Date: February 7, 2026

1. Introduction

Sip ("we," "our," or "us") is designed to help you track hydration while respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information Sip processes, where it's stored, and when it may be shared with service providers.

2. Data You Create in the App

Sip is a local-first app. By default, your hydration logs, goals, history, and preferences are stored on your device. We do not require an account.

3. Health Data and Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you grant permission, Sip can write your water intake entries to Apple Health (HealthKit). We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing. You can manage Health permissions in iOS Settings. (Your Apple Health data is managed by Apple under Apple's policies.)

4. Permissions

Depending on what features you use, Sip may request:

  • Camera (for barcode scanning)
  • Notifications (for reminders)
  • Health (to write water intake to Apple Health)

You can turn these permissions on/off at any time in iOS Settings.

5. Third-Party Services We Use

Sip uses a small number of third-party services to provide specific features:

A) Barcode lookups (Open Food Facts)

When you scan a barcode, Sip may send the barcode number to the Open Food Facts API to retrieve product information. We do not send your hydration history as part of this request.

B) AI features (Google Gemini)

If you use AI-powered features (for example, estimating hydration impact from a product name when structured data is unavailable), Sip may send limited inputs (such as a product name/description) to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We do not intentionally include information that identifies you (like name, email, or precise location) in these requests.

C) Subscriptions (Superwall and/or RevenueCat)

If you purchase Sip Premium, we use Superwall and/or RevenueCat to help manage paywalls, purchases, and subscription entitlement. These services process purchase-related information (e.g., subscription status) and may process device/app identifiers to make subscriptions work reliably. We do not receive your full payment card details—Apple handles payment processing.

D) App platform tooling (Expo/EAS)

Sip is built using Expo tooling. Depending on your build and update configuration, Expo may process limited technical information (for example, app/version and device-related metadata) to operate its services. We do not send your local hydration logs to Expo as part of normal app use.

6. Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising

Sip does not sell your personal information.

Sip does not use your hydration logs for advertising.

If you add analytics or crash reporting in the future, we will update this policy to describe what data is collected and why.

7. Data Sharing

We only share information in these cases:

  • At your direction (e.g., writing water entries to Apple Health).
  • With service providers listed above, strictly to provide app functionality.
  • For legal reasons if required to comply with law, regulation, or valid legal process.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Because Sip stores your hydration data locally on your device:

  • Deleting the Sip app removes Sip's locally stored data from that device.
  • Data written to Apple Health must be managed/deleted within Apple Health.

9. Children's Privacy

Sip is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not create user accounts or maintain a user database of ages.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page and the Effective Date will be revised.
