Privacy Policy for Sip

Effective Date: January 14, 2026

1. Introduction

Sip ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. Our app is designed with a "Privacy First" philosophy, ensuring that your health journey remains your own. This policy explains how we handle data when you use the Sip mobile application.

2. Data Collection and Storage

  • Local Storage: Sip is a "local-first" application. Your water intake logs, daily goals, and history are stored directly on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not store your personal health data on our own servers.

  • HealthKit (Apple Health): If you grant permission, Sip writes your water intake data to the Apple Health app. We do not read other health data from your device, and we do not use HealthKit data for marketing or advertising purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide advanced features, Sip utilizes the following third-party services:

  • Open Food Facts: When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts API to retrieve nutritional information. No personal data is sent.

  • Google Gemini (AI): If product data is unavailable via barcode, the app may process the product's name through Google's Gemini API to estimate water content. This data is anonymized and contains no user-identifiable information.

  • Superwall & RevenueCat: We use these services to manage Sip Pro subscriptions. While they process transaction status through Apple, we do not have access to your credit card or financial details.

  • Expo/EAS: We use Expo tools for app functionality; however, no personal health logs are transmitted to Expo servers.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with third parties. Your data is only shared in the following contexts:

  • At your direction: When you choose to sync your data with Apple Health.

  • Legal Requirements: If required by law to comply with a legal process.

5. Your Choices and Controls

  • Permissions: You can opt-in or out of Camera, HealthKit, and Notification permissions at any time via your iPhone System Settings.

  • Data Deletion: Since your data is stored locally, deleting the Sip app will remove all locally stored hydration history from your device. Data synced to Apple Health must be managed within the Apple Health app.

6. Children's Privacy

Sip does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. As no accounts are created and data is stored locally, we do not have a database of user ages.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on our website and updating the "Effective Date" at the top.
